Welcome to HorizonHacks 2024

The theme has been revealed...

Create something to make a difference in our oceans and marine environments!

HorizonHacks is a week-long virtual hackathon designed to bring together innovators, creators, and problem-solvers from around the world! Whether you're a seasoned developer, designer, or a beginner excited to explore the tech world, HorizonHacks provides a platform to build cutting-edge projects, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and showcase your skills.

A full schedule of our workshops is yet to be decided but will be released shortly. You can work in a team of up to 4 or individually for this hackathon. If you are a beginner or have less experience in programming, we will take that into account while judging projects to make sure everyone has a fair chance at awards.

Event Dates: October 25th – November 1st, 2024

This is your chance to push the boundaries of your creativity and make something truly impactful. You’ll have 7 days to turn your ideas into reality, with access to workshops, mentors, and a thriving community of participants to support you.

Prizes & Opportunities

We’ve got exciting prizes for the Best Overall Project, Best Beginner Hack, and more. Alongside prizes, participants will get access to mentorship sessions, exclusive workshops, and a chance to connect with top industry professionals.

Requirements

Submission Requirements for HorizonHacks 2024

Your submission can be anything you created through code during the hackathon. Whether it’s a game, website, app, or something entirely different, we encourage you to innovate and push your limits. Projects don’t have to be fully complete, but we’d love to see your best efforts during the hackathon. Below are the submission requirements to ensure fair play and smooth submissions.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Start Date & Time
The team or individual must start coding their project on October 25th, 2024, at the start time of the opening ceremony. All projects must be submitted via Devpost before the deadline on November 1st, 2024, 11:59 PM (Timezone). We understand technical difficulties may arise, so we will consider deadline extensions only for verified technical issues.

  2. Project Demo
All submissions must include a 1-2 minute video showing a clear demo of your project. The video should explain what the project does, how it was built, and any standout features. Try to include the voices of all team members if possible!

  3. Submission Details on Devpost
Each submission should include brief written answers (1-2 sentences) for the questions on Devpost. We don’t need an essay, but please share the inspiration and story behind your project. Be concise and explain what problem you aimed to solve and the technologies used.

  4. Cross-Submission
Cross-submitting your project to other hackathons happening during the same period is allowed, as long as you began coding after the opening ceremony of HorizonHacks on October 25th. Make sure that your submission aligns with all hackathons' rules.

  5. Original Work
Remember, all work submitted should be your team’s original creation. Projects created before the hackathon or using code not authored by your team will be disqualified.
